Phlebotomy and Cannulation in Leicester

This workshop is targeted at current or aspiring Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and clinical staff, including Student Nurses, Medical Students, Registered Nurses, Healthcare Assistants (NHS Band 2+), Paramedics and Doctors, who need initial training or a competency refresh for their role. 

While you’ll get the most out of the day if you already work in a clinical setting, motivated beginners with no prior experience are also welcome and will be supported throughout the practical sessions. 

Our Leicester training venues are typically selected on the northern side of the city, making them easier to access from Nottingham via the M1, A46, A6 and A607. These locations are often more convenient for attendees travelling from around Glenfield Hospital, Leicester General Hospital, Birstall and Thurmaston, and they can also work well for those arriving by bus or rail into Leicester before making a short onward journey. We always look for venues with good car parking and sensible road links rather than expensive city-centre venues, so the day starts smoothly and costs stay as reasonable as possible.

You will receive a pre-course workbook approximately 14 days before the course - this is designed to give you a solid foundation in anatomy and physiology before attending. 

The training day itself consists of 50% theory and 50% practical, hand-on simulation training.

You will be given the opportunity to develop your skills using a variety of equipment and techniques on training models. As phlebotomy (venepuncture) and cannulation are invasive procedures with associated clinical risks (such as; infection, nerve damage or arterial puncture, and needlestick injuries), live practice on other candidates is not permitted.

Yes. Upon successful completion, all delegates are awarded a certificate for 7 hours of verifiable CPD (Continuing Professional Development). This serves as evidence for professional revalidation with the NMC, HCPC, or other regulatory bodies.

Absolutely. Our curriculum is developed to align with the Skills for Health Clinical Skills Framework, NICE guideline and national NHS standards. We place a heavy emphasis on Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT) and evidence-based practice to ensure patient safety.

Delegates are assessed during hands-on, simulation-based practice using high-fidelity training arms. Full clinical sign-off must be completed in the learner’s own workplace under the supervision of a designated clinical mentor. 

Yes. We provide private, on-site clinical skills training for GP networks, nursing homes, and private clinics across Leicester. This allows teams to meet their competency requirements together in their own clinical environment.
